Book Review~Crashing into Love

Book #12 The Bradens, Love in Bloom Series #20

Only one woman could hurt ultra-alpha bad boy Jake Braden.

Only one woman can heal him.

Fiona Steele has arrived…

Fiona Steele has a great career, strong friendships, and a loving family. To an outsider, her life appears happy and fulfilling. But the one thing that’s missing is true love, and the only man Fiona wants is the one she can’t have, sinfully handsome and seductively intense Jake Braden—the man whose heart she broke, which she has regretted ever since.

As an LA stuntman, Jake Braden’s at the top of his game. He’s hired for all the best movies, hooks up with the hottest women, and lives an unencumbered lifestyle where his needs come first—and where he doesn’t have to examine his life too closely. Except when he visits his family in his close-knit hometown of Trusty, Colorado, where he spends his time avoiding Fiona—the only woman who knows who he really is.

When Fiona’s best friend is hired to act in Jake’s movie, Fiona jumps at the chance to try to win him back. There’s no denying the white-hot attraction burning between them. With every encounter, Fiona hopes Jake can’t resist falling back into the love they once shared. But her well-orchestrated rendezvous doesn’t go over well with the brooding heartthrob. Living in the fast lane is perfect for a guy who’s buried his emotions so damn deep he’s not sure he can remember how to feel—and he’s not sure he ever wants to.

One of my biggest disappointments in reading is when the book ends and I lose all of my newly acquired friends whose lives I've been immersed in for days and I've completely fallen in love with and have become emotionally invested in. That's the awesome part of the Love in Bloom series. Going into each new book you already know at least a tiny bit about at least one of the main characters from previous books, and bonus: you get to check in on all of your old friends and see how they're doing. This is good for Melissa and for us, we're already predisposed to the characters going in, meaning we're more invested from the first line. Of course for Melissa it means that we'll keep coming back for more. Which is good!

Jake's heartbreak is alluded to in some of the other Braden books, so I was most excited to finally meet this woman that broke his heart and kept him away from Trusty. I loved seeing their relationship and the memories of it head on and not just from the periphery. I enjoyed watching them figure out how to navigate their new relationship while dealing with the scars from their past. I always find second chance romances especially interesting because of that. They have to build a new relationship while simultaneously repairing the old one.

Melissa does a great job of building unique and interesting stories for each of her couples. I always look forward to getting tangled in the lives and emotions of her characters.

I feel like I'm always saying the same things whenever I review a Melissa Foster book, but I can't help it, it's always true! The woman is crazy talented. Her characters are well developed, realistic and multifaceted. She ropes you in with page one, book one, and keeps you hooked until the last sentence of the last book. This is the twelfth Braden book, twentieth in the Love in Bloom series, that takes serious talent. I was as interested in this one as I was the first time I curiously picked up one of her books...long before writing reviews was even on my radar. I just can't rave about her enough, she is one of my favorite contemporary romance authors, hands down. If you haven't read one of her books, you need to.

THE BRADEN COUSINS are one of the newest additions to the LOVE IN BLOOM series.
